Academic Professional Development
The University of Hong Kong is committed to excellence in teaching and learning and the goal of the CETL’s professional development program is to foster quality teaching and learning across the university. In doing so, we take a leadership role in responding strategically to the University and faculty strategic plans for academic development needs. In all of our academic development activities, we create a supportive, learning-centred environment to promote the exploration of scholarly approaches to learning and teaching practice.
Our professional development program involves the following key areas of activity:
Core Program: The core program constitutes substantive, in-depth courses, or workshops and includes:
- The Certificate of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (is a requirement for new research postgraduate students commencing on or after September 1, 2011, before undertaking teaching or assessment duties)
- Introduction to Teaching and Learning @ HKU (is a mandatory programme for all new academic and academic-related staff with full-time teaching responsibilities commencing on or after September 1, 2011)
- Advanced Teaching and Learning @ HKU (is a mandatory programme for all new academic and academic-related staff with full-time teaching responsibilities commencing on or after September 1, 2011)

In-Department Workshops: If you would like to arrange for a workshop on a specific area of focus related to learning and teaching, such as: OBASL, Assessment or Active Learning, and would like to discuss the possibility of a workshop to be held for your faculty, please contact Dr. Gayle Morris, Associate Professor, Director of Academic Programmes, CETL (gmorris@hku.hk).
