elearningAbout the eLearning Pedagogical Support Unit

The eLearning Pedagogical Support Unit (EPSU) is located within the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning and functions to support the University of Hong Kong in realizing its strategic aims with respect to eLearning.

Philosophy

The EPSU operates according to the philosophy that the educational process must be learning led and technology enabled. This philosophy is commensurate with an Outcome-based Approach to Student Learning (OBASL). In practice being learning led means focusing on student learning and intended learning outcomes and using technologies only when they can improve the learning process.

Strategy

The University of Hong Kong’s eLearning strategy is contained in the University’s eLearning Strategy and Implementation document. The document can be downloaded by clicking on this link. In summary, the University of Hong Kong aims to progress through three institutional levels of eLearning in the years 2012 – 2014. These levels can be broadly categorized as basic, intermediate and “cutting edge”.

Operations

Hong Kong University’s eLearning strategy will be realized through the EPSU operational plan 2012 -2014. The plan can be downloaded by clicking on this link. The plan is divided into three sections corresponding to the three levels of eLearning to be realized between 2012 – 2014 at the University of Hong Kong.

Relationships

The EPSU is responsible for supporting the University of Hong Kong in realizing its strategic eLearning aims to the pedagogically principled use of technologies. This means that we support teachers in making appropriate use of technologies in their teaching. Prior to the establishment of the EPSU, the Centre for Information Technology in Education, Faculty of Education offered pedagogical workshops for Moodle. We continue to work with the Centre for Information Technology in Education and are grateful for their support. The computer center offers training in the more technical aspects of Moodle e.g. how to use Moodle functions such as uploading a file, creating content and creating content in Moodle.
