Last Christmas: She Gave it to Some People Special

Dr. Tracy Zou, our CoP – ITL project leader, went on a trip along Shanghai and stopped off at Shanghai Jiao Tung University to spend time with project co-leader Prof. Gao Jie, our coordinator Ms. Wang Zhujun, and four other SJTU colleagues on 21 December 2017. This very meeting enabled both parties to stay current with the development of CoP – ITL and facilitated lively conversation about internationalisation projects at SJTU.

STJU has set out goals of transforming itself into a world-class university by 2020 wherein lay its charms of being comprehensive, research-intensive and international. STJU practises what it preaches: it partners with more than a hundred institutions around the world; internatinalises recruitment and curricula; provides students with English enrichment programmes and conducts research on global issues.

Adhere to the university’s vision, Dr. Cen Yuhao, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean of the Graduate School of Education, explores the learning gain of students who undertake overseas experiential learning. Dr Sui Zhongquan, Associate Professor of the Department of Food Science and Engineering, School of Agriculture and Biology, works on a cross-institutional study with HKU on agriculture and discusses how this project creates a learning opportunity for students of both sides. Ms Li Qi, Lecturer of the Academic Services and Student Affairs Office, School of Materials Science and Engineering, investigates how to develop students’ career inspiration and ability in career planning.

The meeting ended with remarks by Prof. Gao Jie, Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning Development, on highlighting the similarities and differences between Hong Kong and Mainland China in approaches to internationalisation of teaching and learning and by Prof. Yuan Duping, Professor of the School of Physics and Astronomy, on his positive outlook for the close collaboration within our CoP – ITL.
