Process and Timeline
In order to be awarded Senior Fellowship of Advance HE, applicants need to demonstrate a sustained record of effectiveness, leadership and impact in learning and teaching. It is important to understand that moving from Fellowship to Senior Fellowship is not a natural progression. Rather it is to do with the role you occupy or have occupied in the last few years.
The HKU Advance HE Fellowship Scheme is dependent on a mentoring system where colleagues who are SFHEA act as mentors for new applicants. The number of SFHEAs who have completed the mentoring training at HKU is limited, which is why we need to be careful how we use our resources. At the same time, it will be a big time commitment writing an SF application. Some colleagues have reported difficulty to complete within the timeframe in the past.
To ensure your time invested leads to worthwhile results as much as possible and to use our mentor resources better, we have the following process for the colleagues who have interests in submitting applications at this stage when we have limited resources.
CETL provides two workshops for HKU staff on Senior Fellowship application. Both workshops are mandatory for those who are interested in submitting applications for Senior Fellowship through HKU Advance HE Fellowship Scheme.
After completing the two workshops, colleagues are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) using the template provided by CETL to express an interest in applying for Senior Fellowship. The EOI includes a brief account of your professional practice outlining your leadership role in learning and teaching over the last 5 years (1,500 words) and one case study demonstrating impact on colleagues in relation to learning and teaching (1,000 words).
This EOI will allow colleagues to collect feedback on whether your profile is likely to meet the requirements for a potentially successful application (in which case you will be allocated a mentor) or recommendations on the areas you can work on to enhance your profile towards Senior Fellowship. Your EOI document can later form part of your final submission with modifications.
