Class topic

Problem-Based Learning for Cardiopulmonary and Renal Systems

Brief introduction to the course

Problem-based learning in medical education is a unique, student-driven approach in which students learn by collectively working with peers to solve open-ended, complex and real clinical presentations (while the teacher guides the learning process). Multidisciplinary aspects of a clinical case will be explored in-depth. Students will come to understand the preclinical science, pathology and microbiology as well as management of these diseases. The socio-physiological impact of such diseases on the patient, the family and community will also be discussed. This course will enable students to be exposed to an overview of the structure and function in health and diseases of three closely related systems of the body: the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, and urinary system.

Purpose of this Session

Details of the sessions to be observed are as such:

21 Mar 2023 (Tuesday)
This will be the second session of a 3-session case. Students will lead peer collaboration and discussion on analysing the clinical test results and patient presentation using their conceptual knowledge. The teacher will guide and moderate the learning process. It will begin with students presenting take-home research of past session’s learning outcomes. Students will proceed with discussions of the current session’s vignettes. Finally, students will wrap up with identifying take-home research for the current session’s learning outcomes.

31 Mar 2023 (Friday)
